Mays Family Foundation makes largest donation in Texas A&M University-SA’s history

August 2017

The transformative $5 million gift supports the newly named Mays Center for Experiential Learning and Community Engagement and will assist in growth of the Mays Center staff and enhanced programming.

Henry G. Cisneros Institute for Emerging Leaders

Named in honor of the Honorable Henry G. Cisneros and in recognition of his lead gift of $1 million, the Cisneros Institute will serve as an incubator for leadership talent.

Facebook Cyber Security University Program

The program provides students a variety of benefits, such as hands-on training in combating simulated cyber attacks, opportunity to pursue internships with Facebook and scholarships to attend special industry conventions.

Univision Media Lab – Capstone Experience

This hands-on learning program provides senior-level students, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in communications with invaluable on-site educational experience in Broadcast, Radio, Marketing, Advertising and Social Media.

“I am thankful for the scholarship support as I pursue my major in Criminal Justice.”

Melissa Chaidez is from Brownsville, TX and chose to attend A&M-SA in part because of its welcoming faculty.  As a sophomore, Melissa is already a stellar student and leader among her peers.  She currently serves as a JagGuide, a student organization that provides campus tours, and she is also a part of the President’s Leadership Class.

Elva Ruiz Endowed Scholarship Fund 

Donor Spotlight

Mrs. Elva Ruiz has made provisions in her will to establish the Elva Ruiz Endowed Scholarship Fund to benefit students at A&M-SA. This scholarship fund shall provide aid to students native to San Antonio, majoring in a STEM related field and who demonstrate financial need. Mrs. Ruiz is passionate about supporting students pursuing careers related to science and technology.  

Faculty Spotlight

Dr. Akhtar Lodgher teaches the hybrid cyber security course sponsored by Facebook. Committed to educating the next generation of cyber experts, Dr. Lodgher has secured grants of over 1 million dollars from NSF, AFRL, and TxDOT and has made significant contributions in over 30 university grants. Dr. Lodgher has been a professor for the Texas A&M System since 2005.

Henry G. Cisneros Institute for Emerging Leaders

Building upon the momentum of Dr. Cisneros’ lead gift, additional support will assist in securing scholarships for outstanding students as well as endowed academic positions to attract outstanding leadership faculty, a leadership lecture series and a world-class research program.

President's Circle

This prestigious giving society is reserved for donors who make leadership gifts of $1,000 or more annually.  Funds allow Dr. Matson to respond to the university’s most immediate needs or can be designated to support an area chosen by you.

Jaguar Emergency Aid

We understand life can be unpredictable.  This fund was established to assist currently enrolled A&M-SA students in cases of serious, immediate, non-education financial hardships that may disrupt their education or prevent them from earning their degree.
